Yea when you work on your PPL thats one of the first things you train for, complete engine failure. The first step in the checklist is maintain your best glide speed, anything but that best glide speed will result in a faster descent rate.
Couldn’t he have cut the engine, lowered the nose to gain speed than flaired to make a somewhat controlled landing on the water instead of pancaking like that?
I have done 2 deadstick landings and I cannot comment on this crash. Who knows the conditions when the engine failed. Of course, we know to maintain max glide speed, but, we do not know what happened and when. So, to all that are smack-talking : “Go fly on Microsoft’s Flight Sim and can it.”
The Super Viking is in full stall in the entire video. That’s how a Viking stalls, with full aileron authority. It does not tuck and spin like a Cessna.
A Super Viking stalls clean at 80 mph, not 55 or 60.
I didn’t like the way it went any more than the rest of you but a lot of pilots kill them self and everyone on board when faced with less.
